Design and the construction of existing structures remains a key field of our work for the future. Existing buildings “age” and must be preserved and reused, taking into account functionality, safety, sustainability, and listed building protection.
Dealing with historical building fabric and preserving listed buildings is a learning process and always a new challenge for us as designers. Careful documentation of the buildings and an understanding of historical construction techniques are essential when working with listed buildings. Collaboration with other experts and colleagues—such as architects, restorers, building historians, surveyors, wood preservation specialists, church administrators, and vibration experts is indispensable.
Moderating expectations, communicating effectively, and being able to explain deviations from current building regulations without compromising safety are among the necessary skills.
We have been working on historic listed buildings, bell towers, and old buildings from all periods for more than 30 years, and can therefore draw on the experience of many completed and ongoing projects.
Dominik Förtsch has been organizing the “Leipziger Altbautagung” since 2012. We can rely on a large network and extensive experience, as well as state-of-the-art knowledge. Our experience in renovating existing buildings has been accumulated in the areas of commercial, industrial, sacral, and residential construction.
Dominik Förtsch has completed the certified training course “Structural Engineer for the Preservation of Listed Buildings” at Propstei Fulda gGmbH.
Our scope of work ranges from structural design to planning approval for listed structures, including property and structural planning, construction management, supervision, and final handover. Completed projects include the renovation of Baroque castles and churches, as well as the conversion of civic and cultural buildings from the 19th and 20th centuries.
